IN3D Week1 Lab1

Exercise 3
Lab 1 - Prison & Toontown images

Prisons are meant to be scary, powerful looking places, while Toontown is meant for fun and childlike enjoyment – how is this reflected in the lines and angles of the buildings?

For prisons, the lines are dead-straight and rigid, the angles are mostly right-angled and sharp edges. While Toontown has curvy lines and rounded edges. It is natural for human to be afraid of sharp edges, like knives, hence prisons will naturally seem scary while Toontown's rounded edges will give us a more comfortable, happy and safe kind of feeling.

How does the sense of scale reflect the different purposes of the prisons and Toontown?

The prison has a proportionate scale throughout while Toontown has a variety of sizes which made up of different interesting shapes.

  1. Good thoughts. The intentional use of disproportionate sizes in toontown adds that extra fun-ness and cuteness to it while the prison is spacious on the outside and gigantic makes it intimidating.
